Walked into a coffee shop my very first day living in LA and had a little experience that felt so “LA” to me. Been sharing it with friends and someone suggesting that I write all these impressions down. And just like that, the LA section of my blog was born.
It’s a Nor Cal gal’s impression on So Cal.
So there I was, the coffee shop shall remain anonymous, perusing the menu. Every item, as expected, had its corresponding price next to it. Every one except for avocado toast that is.
The avo toast instead said MP. As in Market Price. As in what is usually reserved, at least in my humble experience, for the catch of the day or the special or something like that.
I’m not convinced the price of avo’s changed significantly enough, day by day, to warrant this. Def made me chuckle… and when I asked that the market price was… are ya ready for this?! The nice lady said it was $18.50 and over $20 with tax?!?! WHOAAAAA!!!!
That’s one piece of toast with 1 fried egg. Not sure if they write MP cause most folks just don’t ask OR if there’s some black market for avo’s in LA that I don’t know about and the price swings wildly day to day. Does this exist? Do I need to get in on this avo black market?!
Def never seen MP written next to a menu staple item like that. Felt so LA to me. Have you ever seen MP written next to an avo toast?
As a disclaimer, I am quite a fan of this rad spot, have gone back many times since, just never ordered the avo toast!!!

*** Update: I never order this more-thank-20-dollars avocado toast but… the dude next to me this morning did and I thoroughly inspected it! The bread looks like a thick cut of sandwich bread that they make in house, topped with chunky quasi mashed avocado and 1 fried egg on top.
