Food
“People who love food are always the best kind of people.” Julia Child.
Well then, I must be absolutely fabulous. I love all things food: growing it, shopping for it, cooking it, styling it, shooting it, learning about it, talking about it, thinking about it, eating it…ya get the idea.
Technically speaking, I eat everything. But practically speaking, I eat a predominantly plant based diet (roughly 80%). I’ve learned - especially post spinal trauma - to listen my body, as it generally knows much better than my mind what it needs. What my body needs is different than what your body needs. And what my body needs today is different than what it needed yesterday and what it will need tomorrow. But the one food category I do try to cut out as much as humanly possible is processed shit! And I believe that all bodies, regardless of how different we all are, can truly benefit from doing so as well. Get that processed shit away from me I say!
We vote for what kind of world we want to live in by what we choose to eat.
I love food from the earth. What farmers harvested that day and brought to the market is my very all time favorite. I celebrate fresh bounty and all its perfectly imperfect imperfections. I invest time in getting to know the rad folks that grow the beautiful food that ends up on my client’s plates, and my own.
I shy away from broadly labeling food as “good” or “bad” and instead prefer to always buy the highest quality I can. No two butters are the same, no two olives oils, no two creams. So splurge a bit and buy the good stuff if ya can. Your body will thank ya! And I believe in moderation, in all things, including moderation itself.
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well.” Virginia Woolf
