Pome Fruits
Pome Fruit are the quintessential fall fruits. Pome-what? These include apples, pears, Asian pears, quince and more. * Within these types there’s a plethora of varieties! It’ a whole wide pome fruit world out there!
They range in flavor and texture and the common denominator is that they all have a "core" of several small seeds, surrounded by a tough membrane. The membrane is encased in an edible layer of flesh.
The most popular pome of them all is the apple, the notorious forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. And it was a falling apple inspired Sir Isaac Newton’s theory of gravity in 1666. But did ya know apple also come in hot pink? There’s actually 7,500 varieties of apples in existence! 2,500 of which are grown in the US (though only 100 are grown commercially). Check out your local farmers market to find apples in all their glorious varieties (supermarket tend to carry the same exact 5-10 kinds)! Apples come in all different shape, size, color, texture, aroma and flavor!

*Am taking a bit of creative liberty and putting pomegranates, which also epitomize fall, in the pome fruits category in this blog.
