    Surf Guide Ditch Plains

    Read all about surfing at Ditch Plains beach. A popular and consistent east coast surf spot on the eastern most part of the Hamptons; also know as “the End.”

    Everything you Need to Know about Suring Ditch Plains

    Type of Wave: reef break.
    Bottom: rocky reef,
    Direction: Both lefts and rights and A-frame waves.
    Best Swell Direction: Anything from the South, from southwest to southeast.
    Best Tides: Mid and high tide.
    Best Season: Summer & Fall.
    Ability Level: Great for newbies and fun all levels.
    Bring your: Long board, funboard and hybrid. Shortboarding can be possible when swell is up.
    Crowd Factor: packed during the summer season!
    Vibe: Super friendly. Just respect surf etiquette. And remember: locals alwayshave priority.
    Parking: by permit only.
    You can pick up a parking permit at the Chamber of Commerce in the center of town.
    Amenities: Restrooms and concession stands are available and line the beach.
    Surf board rentals: There’s a ton in town! No need to bring a board.

    Ditch Plains is a two-mile stretch of sandy beach and one of the more consistent waves in Long Island.

    Of the 5 days I spent surfing around Montauk, Ditch Plains was the only wave breaking the entire time. It reminded me of the long, crumbly, mellow long-board friendly breaks of SoCal. I was lucky to be staying just down the street of this stunning spot, lined with stunning dunes and cliffs.
